Long, layered tresses might look great on summer photos, but ladies are swapping their sexy beach waves for something far more practical – a short bob.
While mermaid hair can look great teamed with a loose summer dress, most women end up wrapping their waist-length hair into a top knot or high ponytail to keep it off their neck or back when it is scorching hot outside.
They may also not want to get it covered in suncream, salty from the seawater or bleached by chlorine, which is why keeping their long hair tied up ends up being the most obvious solution.
This summer, however, lots of ladies are asking their favourite hairdressers for the chop, so they can still have a sexy, stylish hairdo even when they’re sunbathing on the beach or splashing in the pool.
Celebrities who have inspired this craze include Barbie star America Ferrera, Jennifer Aniston, Penelope Cruz, Carey Mulligan, and Gigi Hadid.
This look has been dubbed the ‘butterfly bob’, with flipped out ends and shorter layers at the front, or the ‘bixie’, which is a cross between a very short bob and a pixie cut and has layers towards the crown.
You could either go for soft waves and lots of body, or have a very chic, very straight blunt bob.
If you want the pragmatism of a bob for the summer but can’t face chopping lots of length off, you could always opt for a ‘lob’, or long bob. This is still hugely popular, as seen on Eva Longoria recently, and means your tresses will be shoulder length by the autumn.
Aniston, who still looks sensational at 55, has recently gone for the chop, cutting her trademark long honey-coloured hair for a lob with a side parting and long layers to frame her face.
